Stated Meeting 7:30pm
Feb 11 Wives & Widows Banquet 4:00pm

Hello to all,

Don’t forget about dinner we do before the Lodge Meeting. Your ladies are also invited to come and have dinner with us. If we get enough ladies coming who knows, we may be able to get something going for them during our meeting so they feel welcome and a part of the night.

We have been working on some projects at the temple to get the sound system up to speed so you will see microphones in the stations. We are looking into getting costs to update sound system and rewiring so we can reduce the background noise. Thank you to all of the brothers that stepped up and worked on this project, I appreciate it very much.

We did our 2012 budget in January and should be ready for reading and approval at the stated. I want to thank Harold for his patience and understanding on the new way of doing the budget. He has done an outstanding job of pulling together the information from all these years.

As most of you know I am in the process of looking for a new Senior Warden to step into that position. This will be a pro-tem position until next year if you are willing and able to help. Please get a hold of me If you are interested. I have asked Brother Jim II if he would step into this position for the time being.

Please don’t forget about the Wives and Widows Banquet on Feb. 11, 2012 at 4PM at Jennings McCall in the Mt. Jefferson Room. Please call your ladies that you are going to SPONSOR.

We will be having an MM degree on Thursday, January 26, 2012 at 7:30 PM to raise brother Chad Budrow. I hope you can make it and be a part of his degree.

“Success in a journey, not a destination!

Fraternally,

Secretary's Corner

This is the end of the term for the 2011 officers, and the start for a new slate of officers for 2012 is about here. We have had a good year at Holbrook but we could've done better so let's start with those intentions. We have 2 new candidates doing their degrees so let's get some more petitions in so we can continue all year and end 2012 with a growth in membership and activities in Lodge and the community. Holbrook Lodge has been here for many years, but we still have local residents asking, "Where is your Lodge located?"

It was nice to have 31 members at the November meeting with only 4 being visitors. Let's do at least as well in December and then keep improving. Call a member to see if they are coming or need a ride. It is great to see new members taking part in the degrees. We still have some newer members that are not attending the meetings and we need to improve their attendance. Get them in the habit of coming to Lodge on the 1st Tuesday of the month.

Some 2012 dues have been received, but we still have a long way to getting 100%. Same cost now as later. Encourage members that you know that belong to other Lodges that live here to come and get acquainted with all of us.

Fraternally,
Harold

Deputy Master - David Hinton

Secretary/Treasurer - Ray Ruff

No meeting this month.

Greetings Companions!

I am excited about this year for Sunset Council 20. We have a number of folks talking about petitioning, which may result in one or two or more candidates. Please, be thinking about possibly adjusting our degree work schedule to meet the odd working hours our candidates may have. If we are able to do this, I believe we will have a few more candidates.

I would like to offer to setup a special event for the last half of the year. We are all eligible to receive the Royal Ark Mariner’s degree. Many York Rite Masons are unaware of this “side” degree for it is very rare. In Canada, a Council of Royal and Select Masters confer the Royal Ark Mariner degree. In England, RAM Lodges are moored to Lodges of Mark Masters, which work under a separate Grand Lodge of Mark Master Masons. In the USA, this degree forms part of the Allied Masonic Degrees. Earlier in AMD history, separate Royal Ark Mariner Lodges worked this Degree. These separate RAM lodges were “moored” to a Council of the Allied Masonic Degrees. Only three surviving RAM Lodges are moored to Councils in the United States. Warrants are no longer issued for new RAM Lodges.

Other than those three remaining Lodges, AMD Councils confer the Degree only on their own AMD members. This is why the degree is so rare in the US. One of the surviving Royal Ark Mariner’s Lodges is Willamette River Lodge 3 in Portland, of which I am a lifetime member. I thought, I could ask them out to a Sunset Council meeting to confer the degree on us as a class. Please, consider whether or not you would like me to pursue such an event; if the council so desires, I will make plans to do make this an event.

Fraternally,
Michael S. Ratliff
Illustrious Master

  Pacific Chapter, Order of DeMolay

Chapter Dad - Jason Thacker
Chairman - David Hinton

Thank you for all your support over the months in getting Pacific Chapter up and running. We appreciate the generous donations in both time and money in our endeavor to reactivate the chapter.

Pacific Chapter recently initiated three new young men into the Order of Demolay at the Grand Master's Class held in Tigard on November 5th. It is really exciting seeing the chapter grow and we are close to having enough members to fill all the positions necessary to perform the opening and closing ceremonies.

Pacific Chapter is holding regular meetings on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of each month. We invite all interested to come visit us.

The young men of the chapter have agreed to focus on three core areas in the planning of events:

  1. Service to the Masonic organizations (all those local to Forest Grove and Oregon at large)
  2. Membership
  3. Fund raising

If you have any ideas in any of these areas, we would appreciate your input! If you need assistance or want to involve these young men in your activities, please let us know and we will see how we can support you.

Also Bob Landauer will be placing boxes lined with plastic bags in the hall for cans and bottles donation for Pacific Chapter’s can drive. You can either drop them off there or give us a call and we will be more than happy to stop by your home and pick them up.

Thank you again for your support!
